Terms and AI notice
These terms explain the practical rules for using Etymon.ai. They also explain what its generated etymologies can and cannot be used for. If you do not agree, do not use the service or purchase a plan.
AI-generated educational results
Etymon.ai uses a combination of AI systems to draft etymologies, timelines, cognates, word families, root explanations, and quizzes. Generated text can be incomplete, outdated, or wrong. It may present a folk etymology as accepted history or state an uncertain relationship too strongly.
Use results for exploration and learning, not as an authoritative dictionary or professional linguistic opinion. Check important claims against a cited historical dictionary, primary source, or qualified linguist before using them in research, teaching, publication, assessment, or another decision that affects someone.
Accounts and safe use
You are responsible for activity through your account and for keeping access to your Google account secure. Do not place passwords, payment details, authentication tokens, health information, or other confidential personal data in a word lookup.
Do not interfere with the service, evade usage limits, scrape the database in bulk, probe for another user's data, or use automated traffic that harms availability. We may limit abusive traffic or suspend access needed to protect users and the service.
Subscriptions and cancellation
Paid plans renew automatically at the amount and interval shown in Stripe Checkout until canceled. Stripe shows the final charge and available payment methods before confirmation. Plans can be monthly or annual. The live catalog is priced in US dollars. A plan change can create a prorated invoice, which Stripe shows before confirmation.
Signed-in subscribers can open Stripe's Customer Portal from the account menu or the pricing page to view invoices, update a payment method, change an available plan, or cancel. The portal shows when a requested change or cancellation takes effect before it is confirmed. Nothing in these terms limits cancellation, refund, or consumer rights that cannot be waived under applicable law.
Credits and plan access
Credits are in-product usage allowances, not money. They cannot be transferred, sold, redeemed for cash, or used outside Etymon.ai. Uncached AI requests may use more than one credit, while cached lookups can be free. Allowances and reset periods shown on the pricing page form part of the plan description.
A plan described as unlimited has no ordinary lookup quota, but it does not permit attacks, resale, bulk extraction, or automated use that degrades the service for others.
Availability and third-party services
Etymon.ai depends on Google, Supabase, Stripe, Netlify, and other infrastructure providers. Features can be delayed or unavailable when those services fail or when maintenance is required. We may change or retire features, but paid subscription changes remain subject to applicable consumer law.
The service is provided on an "as available" basis. To the extent permitted by law, Etymon.ai does not guarantee uninterrupted access, error-free results, or fitness for a particular purpose. These terms do not exclude liability or rights that the law does not allow us to exclude.
Changes and contact
We may revise these terms as the product changes. The effective date above will change when the published terms change. Material changes will receive any additional notice required by law.
For privacy, account, or billing questions, use the instructions on the contact page. Do not email card numbers or authentication credentials.
